This one has been on my 'to-complete' pile for some time now... and I have finally finished it. I'm quite happy with this one and thinking of doing something similar on a larger scale. Well, perhaps once I have worked through that 'to-complete' pile a little bit more.
I was in the mood for drawing a hummingbird the other day at lunch... with spring on its way its hard not to think of the blossoms and hummingbirds making their way back. I am happy with the way the hummer turned out... but I do think that I need to practice my flowers yet.
Got another colour layer on this last night (waited for some daylight to take the photo though.... sorry about the glare). I have most of the larger colour areas finished and I will be moving onto some of the smaller details to finish up the painting. I am hoping to call this one finished by Sunday night as I want to enter it into a show this summer.
I've started working on a new painting the last few days and thought I would post what I have done so far on it. This stage is showing the first glaze of colour over a burnt sienna under painting. I was really impressed with the results of my latest lighthouse painting that I would try the technique again. These layers take several days (or more) to dry so I'll post updates and I add more glazes of colour.
Just another quick little sketch from me tonight. I've been sketching birds lately for a couple of larger paintings... one for myself and two others for a commission. I haven't painted too many larger paintings with birds in them (well, larger than 2.5" x 3.5" that is... ) so I thought now was a good time to start.
I think I am finished with this one... though, I still might fiddle with the two figures as I am not entirely happy with them. Working quickly with a limited palette was a lot of fun and took a lot of will power not to go in with the tiny brush and add details.
Just a quick little sketch of a Tufted Titmouse that will eventually become a painting for a commission. These are adorable little birds... and I have to thank Barbara on flickr who has given me permission to use her wonderful photography as reference. Thanks Barbara!!
I've been busy painting this week... but I just haven't scanned anything in to show. I did this sketch a little while ago... found the reference photo on Wetcanvas and I just had to try drawing it. Actually... I am thinking of making this one of my next larger sized paintings.
There is still have lots left to do on this one (especially on the rather horrible looking shadows) but I thought I would post what I am currently working on now that I am finished the apples. This painting has come on and off my easel for a while now... I've been frustrated numerous times with it. But, seeing how well the "Apple Slice" painting turned out I thought I would give it another try.
I think I am finally finished this painting... this isn't the greatest picture, as it looks much better in real life. My camera hasn't been cooperating with me and has been taking somewhat grainy pictures.
I sketched this from a picture I saw of Newfoundland, Canada... and the brightly coloured houses really caught my eye. I'm getting more comfortable sketching and I am even starting to play around with different types of textures in my sketches to create shadows and shapes.
Usually I keep my sketchbooks to myself... not really happy with the scrawled little pictures. But this one, I actually find myself showing the pictures that I have sketched in it. This sketching thing is really quite addicting.
