Spider -Work in Progress, Step ??

Not sure what step... but I think I may be almost finished this guy's little portrait. I'm still deciding on the overall colour (and a few little details here and there). Then... if I see no changes over the next couple days, it will be varnished and framed and sent to his new owner. I hope I've captured a good likeness of Spider.

Squiggy - aka Angry Cat

A quick break from painting for this sketch of my beloved Squiggy cat with one of his many expressions... this time it was angry cat and how he looked after the puppy came home. I just love his expression! ... almost like he is contemplating some evil plan.

A Kitty Named Spider... Work in Progress

I've added a few more layers of paint to Spiders neck and face... though, at my pace this might take a little while yet. Spring has appeared here, and being my first yard in a very long time... I've been feeling the bug to play in the dirt. The weatherperson is predicting more cooler wet weather is on its way so perhaps lots more studio time this week will still happen.

Spider: Nearly Completed

I'm getting ever so close to finish this kitty portrait.... just a little bit more work on the neck and ears (oh... and the whiskers) and then there is nothing to do but wait for the frame I ordered to arrive.

A Kitty in Progress: Spider

I didn't manage to get much painting done today... busy trying my best to get the very very last minute holiday cards out to everyone. I am so late this year that I think all my cards will be Happy New Year cards instead of Christmas cards. I've also started writing down and thinking about my New Year's resolutions (I have a terrible habit of not following through with them). This year... I'm going to try to get some good realistic goals and keep to them next year. Stay tuned for my list (which should appear shortly before the end of the year).

Still On the Easel - Spider

Today I worked more on Spider, completed some of the shaping of his neck and the top of his neck. I've also started blending and shaping the whiskers along his face and neck. The masking fluid lines were slightly too wide so I've had to slowly adjust so that I can just blend the colours together. So far so good.

More Spider (WIP)

I got a little more done on Spider this weekend, mostly in 'greying' up the fur (when compared to the photograph I had Spider a touch to brown. Its been a busy weekend working on all sorts of projects (painting and photographing), so overall... a good productive weekend.

A Little More Done on Spider (WIP)

Its been a little while since I've posted an update on Spider. Progress has been slow and steady... layer by layer. All the masking fluid has been removed and I have also started to soften the edges between the hard edges and the fur of the kitty. I'm happy with the progress so far and I will keep on plugging away at it.

Spider, Work Still in Progress

I don't have a finished painting tonight... so, I thought I would post an update on my kitten painting. Work on this guy has been slow and steady (in between the bird paintings) but I've been happy with the result so far. My goal is to have Spider (the kitty) finished in time to send him to his home by Christmas. Time is slowly running out... I better pick up the pace.

Spider, Work in Progress

I have far too many paintings on the go... but I find that I can rotate through them so as I get frustrated with one I can move on to another. This one is a surprise for someone of their late kitty "Spider". I'm taking my time with this guy hoping to get a good likeness.

Her Royal Highness, Finished!

I put the final touches on this kitty tonight... though, obtaining a decent picture of it proved very difficult. I'll take some better pictures (with close up details) tomorrow when I have some daylight.

Her Royal Highness

I'm almost done this one... just have the whiskers left which will be added when the paint is a little bit more dry. The paint is still wet in this pic and I'll post a better scan of it when it is dry. This painting was fun and frustrating at the same time. The repeated strokes of paint for the fur was very relaxing to paint. At the end, though, when I was close to being done... the slow repetitive motion became frustrating. Patience... still working on that sometimes.

untitled, A Work in Progress

It might not look like much is done, but since my last post I have added another glaze of colour to the background and almost finished the upper left hand side of the kitties face. This little fellow is taking a little bit longer than I though... especially when using a 10/0 paintbrush to put in each little hair. Have I ever mentioned that I sometimes get a little too much into detail?

untitled, Work in Progress

This guy has been keeping me busy these last couple days. I had the urge to paint a cat that I just couldn't shake. This guys is being painted on a black gesso canvas and what you see (except in the right upper corner) is the under painting that I completed yesterday. Today, I have been working on the hair and increasing the intensity of the colour that I lost on the black gesso.

This is a case where I didn't plan ahead properly. Most of my earthy red/orange colours are transparent and, unfortunately, the colours get lost on the black ground. This guys should have been painted on a lighter (white or sepia) ground. I'll take it as a lesson learned and do another one and compare the final results.

With the under painting done, the colours are starting to show up much better, but I'll have to see tomorrow in daylight if this guy will need a third layer.

Green Eyes

I got up bright and early this morning to get this one finished. Now that it is completely and I am relatively happy with the way the fur turned out, I think I am going to go through my reference images and see find another kitten I'll paint.

I do see a few areas that I can definitely improve upon... with the main area being around the cheek and jaw of the cat. I tried, but it just doesn't look quiet right.

George

George has been sitting on my pile of 'to finish' for quite a while now... so, tonight was the night to finish him. George represents the cat I don't (and can't) have due to my landlords rules. Here... George is sticking out his tongue at those rules.
