Ruby Throated Hummingbird, Finished!

Finally finished this one... took me a little bit longer than I hoped. There is touches of iridescent and duochrome paint in the throat and head feathers for an extra touch of sparkle.

In other news, I've recently signed a new lease on a place and paintings may be sporadic over the next month due to the up coming move. I am going to be concentrating more on watercolour paintings over this time period since the oils take a little longer to dry.

Lil' Hummingbird, Work in Progress

It's been slow going on this one, but I am slowly getting it done. The lil' hummingbird itself is nearly done and I have a little bit of work left on the branch and leaves. Slow and steady on this one.

Found Them

It may appear that I have an endless supply of 'work in progress' paintings (and I suppose I do in some ways)... but this is one of my mental breaks from work paintings that I've completed over the last couple lunch breaks. I wanted to try painting marbles again, just to see if my skill with drawing and painting them has improved. The end result, I think these are some of my best marbles yet! I have lots more to learn when it comes to painting glass, but I am definitely improving.

Ruby Throated Hummingbird, Work in Progress

I had a little bit more progress with this painting tonight... even adding a touch of sparkle to the iridescent throat feathers. The going has been slow but steady on this but I am making progress. Tomorrow I plan on finishing the body of the bird and hopefully get a good start on the leaves.

New Hummingbird Painting (Work in Progress)

I've started a new watercolour bird painting tonight, really just getting the sketch and the initial drawing done. It will be a painting of a ruby-throated hummingbird (my favourite) and I'm eagerly waiting to use some of my iridescent paint on the throat feathers. Hopefully in the next few days I'll start getting some paint on this one and I'll post updates as I progress.

Marine Work in Progress Update

I got a little more painting done on this one (sorry about the glare on the painting... paint is still very much wet), specifically around the door and the top of the boat. I am slowly glazing the door trying to get a worn wooden look on it. I am slowly getting there and with each layer more detail is also being added. Lots more to go, but I am really happy with the way it is progressing.

Spring is in the Air

Just finished this one this morning.... an unusual painting for me as there are two chickadees in this one. I also decided to up the challenge on this one and paint some (dreaded) flowers. They turned out okay.. but, more practice is still needed. I'm getting the colours closer to what I like, now I just need to work out those shadows.

Spring is on its way on the west coast. I saw my first flowers of the season this last weekend... beautiful little snow drops and another flower I don't know what the name is. Soon, the cherry trees will start blossoming and I'll truly know that spring is here!

Lil' Titmouse

Today's painting is a lil' titmouse (thanks to blmiers2 at Flickr for permission to use her wonderful bird photos). I have a few more bird paintings lined up that will make their appearance over the next week.

Daisy, Work in Progress

I had an irresistible urge to pick up the acrylic paints tonight and paint. Yup... I have lots of other paintings on the go... but, when the creative bug strikes one cannot argue. Actually, I have been debating about playing experimenting with the acrylic paints on some 'rescued' canvases for a while now. By rescued, I mean gesso'ing over previously abandoned paintings to reuse the canvas. So far so good on this one... and hopefully I will be done it soon. A little bit of sunshine for my walls.
