Tugboat

This is an image that I have been wanting to paint for a long time... just never knew the best way to paint it. Then, I saw some of Julie Beck's art and was totally inspired to paint the tugboat leaving a boarder of wood. The end result, I believe, complements the image of the tugboat and really makes it pop. I love it so much so... that I have already started gessoing my next cradled wood

Moleskin Chickadee Sketch

It is bitterly cold out there today... not even the dogs wanted to be out much longer than to do their business. Seemed like a good day to stay indoors and do some sketching.

Just a quick little sketch from the sketchbook tonight... working on a couple larger paintings and a few new bird paintings, though finished paintings to show.

Tomorrow's Bluebird - Bird #50

I haven't been posting much this past week, but I have been busy... honest! There have been a couple larger oil paintings on my easel and a couple of smaller bird paintings as well. This little bluebird is done... The background complements the blue on the bird very nice, though I think a lighter blue-ish background may have looked better. Perhaps I'll have to paint another one just to see if that is true.

Tomorrow's Bluebird - Step 3

A bit more done today... specifically the background. I went for a nice golden orange to make the blue on the bluebird pop... though, I think I might have gone a little too golden. The cure will be layering more blue on the bird. Should be done soon!

Tomorrow's Bluebird - Step 2

A little further today, though not quite finished. Just a bit more to go on the branch and pine cone... oh, and the bug in her beak and then I'll be done. So many painting on the go... so little time.

Tomorrow's Bluebird - Work in Progress

Started a new painting tonight... and having a wonderful time with this particular little bluebird. So many subtle shades of blue, grey, and brown in her feathers. Been using one of my smallest brushes to slowly build the colour up.

Spring Garden - Bird #49

After all the snow yesterday that was shoveled off the driveway... I thought a little spring colour might be in order. Fresh off the easel (still very wet) a chickadee portrait with one of my most favourite spring flowers.

Grape Appeal - Work in Progress

No finished painting tonight (I tried... tomorrow I should a new painting to post), but I managed to get a little done on my grapey painting from some time ago. All the canvas is now covered and two of the grapes are now finished (though, there may be some final touches at the end). I really love how rich the colours are, though I seem to have a real hard time capturing all the subtle tones in the reds and oranges.

Happy New Year

Just want to wish everyone a most joyous New Year. The studio has been pretty quiet the last couple days though I am hoping to return to the brushes very soon. I have a couple 'nearly finished' paintings and a couple new ones that will be back on the easel!!
