Paint a Day Project

I've been thinking of starting a 'painting a day/week' project (inspired by Duane Keiser very successful Painting a Day blog ). It would be a challenge to complete a new painting everyday or everyweek considering it usually takes me a month to complete anything. But, the benefits would be awesome: I would be improving my painting skills and perhaps hopefully make a little money at it. The only thing I have noticed is that almost all of the paintings on these successful 'painting a day' blogs are oil based paintings, not acrylic or watercolour. I wonder if acrylic paintings can be as successful as oil based? Any thoughts?

Regardless, I am going to give this challenge a go. Initially I am going to do a small format painting a week and perhaps work myself up to a painting a day. Small format paintings will be 5" x 7" or smaller, depending on what size suppport I have available. All paintings will be for sale on this blog through paypal. The first painting should be up in the next week or so.

Well, I guess with that, I'm off to paint!

New Photoblog

Iwas checking out the new blogger beta today and decided to start a new photoblog. I'll be posting, almost daily, photographs I've taken. When I got all the details worked out, the photos will also be available as prints for sale.

Feel free to go over, take a peek, and let me know what you think.

Falling a Little Behind

I have been falling a little behind with updates on this blog and on my paintings. I currently have six unfinished acrylics and three unfinished watercolours staring at me... just begging to be completed. Blame it on the nice weather or company I have had lately, but I just haven't had the time to finish. I'm hoping that in the next week or two things will quiet down again and I'll be happily completing this unfinished pieces.

Sketch Time

Another sketch from my sketch book - this one is from my university days. I doodled this one wondering what a frog/chicken/rat cross might look look like. He's kinda of a funny looking character with a grasshopper caught under his foot for lunch.

Drew this on in a quantum physics class...

Confessions of a Sketchbook Collector

I am a collector of sketchbooks... have far too many, and don't nearly use them enough. They are of all sizes... big, small, thick, and thin. I take one with me on trips, another I use coloured pencil in, and yet another is a college of magazine clippings, quick sketches, and bit of nature glued into the pages. Unfortunately, my favourite sketches don't often end up in my sketchbooks... Sometimes they are on scraps of paper that I loose over time. I know, I should add them to my books, but I never seem to remember to do that.

This sketch I completed some time ago. Its part of a collection of sketches of mermaids. Its my attempt to remember how an earlier mermaid drawing looked on a scrap piece of paper that I did in my first year of university. Its pretty close to what I remember, but I did a much better job on the arms and face on the first one.

Just finished a new painting called oranges. I was concentrating on trying to be a bit looser with my paint strokes this time and not concentrating on being photorealistic so much. As a result, this painting was much quicker to finish and actually a lot of fun to do.
